Good nutrition is the foundation and cornerstone to having better health and prolonging life. We are all built different with varying health and nutrition needs. The simplest way to make sure your on track to improving your nutrition and health is by following the food pyramid. The base of the food pyramid suggests you drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Next are your fortified cereals, bread, rice and pastas. You need at least six servings of these healthy grains each day. After that, the third level advises you have three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruit in your diet. And finally, you have dairy and protein. This level suggests you have at least three servings of dairy, such as milk, yogurt or cheese and two servings of protein, such as meat, poultry, dry beans or nuts. There is one additional level which consists of fats, oils and sweets. These shouldn’t be part of your diet; however, if fats, oils, and sweets are in your diet, they should be kept to a minimum. Eating foods which contain fats, oils, and sweets will not improve your health, in fact, they will often times decrease your over well health. When basing your diet off the food pyramid it is important to keep a few things in mind. First, make sure that you are making smart choices from every food group. Also, stay within your daily calorie needs and try to get the most nutrition out of those calories.
Proper nutrition is the best way to improve your health. However, nutrition is still just one part of the overall equation. One of the healthiest and simplest physical activities you can perform is running or jogging.
